Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) is a two day theoretical course designed and targeted at ward nurses working across the trauma spectrum. Unlike previous courses, TCAR focuses on the care of trauma patients past the emergency department looking at the wider physical, emotional and social aspects of trauma care.  The course equips nursing with the physiological knowledge to anticipate problems and works through case based solutions. The two days covers a range of relevant complicating factors for trauma patients such as the management of elderly trauma, the obese trauma patient and even youth violence. TCAR provides theoretical knowledge required for trauma ward based competencies in full recognition that “trauma care doesn’t stop at the ED doors” and that there is a very real need for ward focussed trauma educational programmes.

Following adaptation by colleagues in London the first UK TCAR course was run in Summer 2018 in London and feedback was excellent from both nurses and AHP’s. We are pleased to announce two further courses planned for June 2019 supported by the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre and the  London major Trauma System and members of the NMTNG.
